AG refuses consent for contempt in opposition to Digvijaya Singh

Attorney General Ok.Ok. Venugopal has declined a plea to provide consent to provoke felony contempt proceedings within the Supreme Court in opposition to Member of Parliament and senior Congress occasion chief, Digvijaya Singh, for his tweets.

In August, Mr. Venugopal had equally declined permission to a complainant who wanted to initiate contempt proceedings against actor Swara Bhasker for “scandalising” the Supreme Court along with her tweets on the court docket’s verdict within the Ramjanmabhoomi title dispute case.

The Attorney General had discovered no substance in that plea in opposition to Ms. Bhasker, saying her feedback relating to the Ramjanmabhumi verdict “appears to be a factual one” and contained her “perception” of the judgment.

The apex court docket had nevertheless discovered civil rights lawyer Prashant Bhushan responsible of felony contempt for “scandalising the court” along with his tweets commenting on an image of Chief Justice S.A. Bobde on a heavy bike and the court docket’s functioning up to now six years.
