Sahitya Academy award winner Shaik Khaja Hussain, standard as Devi Priya, passes away

VIJAYAWADA: Noted Telugu poet, journalist, scriptwriter, and Kendra Sahitya Academy award winner Shaik Khaja Hussain (70) popularly often known as Devi Priya, handed away on November 21 morning. The famend poet died of a quick sickness in Hyderabad. Devi Priya was born in Tadikonda in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

Devi Priya bagged the Sahitya Akademi Award 2017, for his e book Gaali Rangu. His “Running Commentary” on up to date politics in Udayam Telugu day by day was highly regarded and thought-provoking. Later, he continued the Running Commentary even for a few vernacular information channels.  He is understood for his political satirical cartoons and poetry.


Poetic precision was the first energy of Devi Priya and he used to attract a skinny line between direct and decorative poetry. He attributes his love for mythological epics to his poetic evolution. Apart from penning poetry, he has additionally written a number of lyrics for Telugu films. His track Jambhal Bhari Bhai penned for Maa Bhoomi was highly regarded amongst all. He authored a number of books together with Gareebi Geetaalu, Amma Chettu Chepa Chiluka, and others.

During his journalism stint, Devipriya was instrumental in making famous Telugu poet Sri Sri to write down his autobiography.


AP Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan in a message conveyed his profound grief and unhappiness on the passing away of Devi Priya. The Governor provided his prayers for his soul to relaxation in peace and expressed his heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved household.
